The Oak Ridge Community Band/Oak Ridge Wind Ensemble

The organization was founded in 1944 to give amateur musicians a place to play their instruments and to provide quality band music for the Oak Ridge community. The band currently gives four free summer concerts in A.K. Bissell Park and six indoor concerts as part of a subscription series which are presented in various venues including the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center and the First Baptist Church.

The Community Band is a tax exempt, non-profit organization registered in the State of Tennessee and is a member of the Arts Council of Oak Ridge. Rehearsals are held every Thursday evening 7:30 - 9 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge. Interested area musicians are welcome to join, and no auditions are required.

Oak Ridge Community Band Summer Concerts

The summer series of outdoor concerts this year will begin the Oak Ridge Community Band's 75th season. All the band's summer concerts are held at A.K. Bissell Park, 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike, at the Performing Pavilion. There is no admission fee for these concerts, but donations are gratefully appreciated to offset band expenses. Bring chairs or blankets for outdoor seating; there is a paved area for wheelchair seating. For information about each concert, follow the band on Facebook at www.facebook/OakRidgeCommunityBand.

  • Monday, May 27 - Memorial Day Concert: 7:00 p.m.

  • Thursday, July 4 - Independence Day Concert:7:30 p.m.
    The concert celebrates America's Independence Day with music and is followed by the annual Oak Ridge City fireworks display.

  • Sunday, August 4 - Best of Summer Concert: 7:00 p.m.

  • Monday, September23 - Labor Day Concert: 7:00 p.m.

Oak Ridge Community Band/ Wind Ensemble Subscription Series Concerts

For the Fall, Winter, Spring season the same group of musicians goes more formal as the Oak Ridge Wind Ensemble - presenting a series of concerts under a general theme for the concert season. These concerts are presented on Sunday afternoons at 3:30 p.m. either in the Oak Ridge High School Performing Arts Center or First Baptist Church. The ORHS Performing Arts Center is located at 1450 Oak Ridge Turnpike and First Baptist Church at 1101 Oak Ridge Turnpike.
